That's rough

I'm confused, depressed, frustrated, confused, depressed, etc. Years later, too weird.

Quien es mas macho?

Well, sadly, no longer Ricardo Montalban

Some Fiber with that Movie?

I have to go to work today, but instead I'm watching boyz n the hood on TNT. Naturally, this commercial broadcast is brought to us by a corporate sponsor. With a movie like Boyz N the Hood, I think it's perfectly logical that it should be brought to us by Fiber Sense. That's right, a product intended largely for old people is bringing us Boyz N the Hood, a movie not targeted to old people. Well done TNT, well done.

A hint about ties

For at least the second consecutive week, Darryl Johnson is wearing a shirt with a broad collar and a tie with a four-in-hand knot. Simply put, broad collars require at least a half-windsor, if not a full windsor knot. I'm guessing that Moose is pretty tall, and thus it may be difficult to get ties with enough length for him to use a full-windsor, but anyone can use a half-windsor. TV people have fashion consultants, how do they let these guys go on TV looking so bad?

Stupid NFL and TV Execs

Today there is a big, BIG game, it's on right now in fact: Tampa Bay at Atlanta. The NFC South is the most competitive division in all of the NFL, at the start of the day no team had been eliminated from the post season (although the Saints are on life support). However, I cannot watch this game due to the absurd TV rules imposed by the NFL in their TV contracts with the networks. For some reason, the NFL prevents the networks from simultaneously broadcasting games at both the early and late time slots. I really don't understand this stance. It seems obvious that the best promotion of the NFL product is to get it out to as many viewers as possible, and they should therefore want as many games televised at any time slot as possible. Of course, they may have run the numbers and concluded that by not doing this it increases their profitability from their stupid NFL Sunday Ticket thing, which many people can't get because they can't get decent satellite reception. I would argue that this analysis is probably terribly flawed, since it discounts the impact that showing more games has on merchandising and the availability of NFL partnerships with advertisers.

Regardless, I am presently being denied access to the aforementioned TB-Atlanta game because, in my location (between Canada and Mexico), CBS has the time slot so Fox games are blocked. What is CBS showing? The less significant NY Jets-Buffalo game. Sure, the Jets are in the thick of the playoff hunt, but Buffalo is done. This isn't a terrible game, it just isn't the best game. On the bright side, at least they aren't showing the completely irrelevant Tennessee game or the massacre that is sure to unfold in Indianapolis.

ADDENDUM: Obviously this post is pretty stupid in one respect, the AFC East is even tighter than the NFC South. So, it's hard to fault CBS for showing the Jets game. Actually, I don't think I faulted CBS for that, since they can't show NFC games. However, I stand by the point I was making: the NFL should broadcast as many games as possible.

A post about the neighborhood

This morning, I got up an our or so later than I meant to--I have an ass-ton of work to do today. I went out to Starbucks, they lost my coffee order (it's really complicated: venti coffee with soy topper (why they call soy milk used as creamer topper, I'll never know)). Then I got back to my apartment, sat down to play on the interwebs for a bit to help transition into then next 15 hours or so of work. All is going well until I hear: "UGGGGGHHHH, AGGRRH." Hmm, that's not good. Well, for the last ten or so minutes, every 60 to 90 seconds my downstairs neighbor has been emitting these sounds, and loudly. It sounds almost as if he's working his way from his bathroom into mine through the plumbing. On an aside, this is the same downstairs neighbor who used to get in extremely loud arguments with his girlfriend, which resulted in her throwing things and ripping the mailbox off the wall (I'm fairly certain this is why my mailbox is now a parallelepiped instead of rectangular prism). Anyway, I really don't see why the occasional "UGGGHHH, AGGRRH" will interfere with my work. It's not like it's the type of thing that breaks your concentration. In fact, I may try to record this and sell it as one of those cds of background noise intended to sooth your nerves. Instead of whale sounds, it'll be downstairs neighbor after excessive drinking. It's a winner.

Weird Week

It's been an odd week round the neighborhood. Starting off, last weekend I went to a buddy's wedding, actually, I'm friends with both the bride and groom, but buddies' wedding just seems weird. Anyway, my ex-girlfriend was at the wedding too. Until recently, I really haven't thought much about her. After all, we broke up a year ago, and I'd at least like to think I've moved on. Well, as the wedding got nearer, I realized I was a little confused. Then I realized, I miss her. Still, I tried to shrug that off. I mean, what's that all about? Anyway, seeing her at the wedding (and some other friend of the groom hitting on her) didn't improve things.

This week, I've been slammed at work. Actually, I was slammed last week too, it's just that I blew it off a little because of the wedding. Anyway, so I'm extra slammed, and I've been working until between midnight and one everynight. It's a great time. I'm tired, I'm trying to crank through monotonous work, and I'm getting more tired.

Also, I've started listening to Weezer again. I used to really like Weezer. Not when it was first cool to like Weezer, which was when I was in high school many years ago, nope, I grew to like Weezer when I was in grad school.

It's this last bit that finally hit me. I grew to like Weezer right as a relatively brief but intense (at least for me) relationship died. After that, I was slammed with trying to pull together my thesis, which I had pretty much blown off until then. I found myself getting into the office around 9 or 10 in the morning, and testing or writing until midnight or so every day. Throughout this process, I listed to one hell of a lot of Weezer. I also listened to one hell of a lot of Morphine (particularly Cure for Pain).

Bearing all of this in mind, I'm wondering, am I now, after a year, acting like I just got dumped? Or, am I hoping to get things started again (which isn't particularly realistic)? Maybe I'm just tired, in need of a vacation, etc. Or, perhaps I'm a little depressed about doing virtually nothing but working. I don't know. I'm not even sure why I'm posting this, instead of working. Regardless, here it is.
